How to Live Stress Free!

1. Laugh a lot. If there's nothing to laugh at, laugh at your reflection.
2. Look at a picture of a baby at the first sign of stress. How can you stay stressed looking at a cute baby?
3. Pretend your a reality star and that your problems will make great ratings and give you big pay checks.
4. Treat negative comments like you do a fart or any other noise that comes out of an @$$h0le
5. Watch Yoga DVDs but if you're old and inflexible like me, don't actually do them. Just watching those Zen people will make you zen.
6. Let your gut hang loose, stop sucking it in.
7. When people try to bring you down with drama, tell them that they look really silly in that polka dot bikini, especially if they're not wearing one.
8. Drink chocolate milk, unless you're lactose intolerant then just dump the chocolate syrup over your mouth and squeeze away.
9. Watch shows like "Bad Girls Club", "Jersey Shore" and "Bridezillas" Two mins of those shows and you'll realize your problems aren't that bad.
10. Make a mud pie in your backyard. Don't have one? Find somebody else's and make them one as a thank you for using their backyard.
11. Sing. Loudly and off key is especially important
12. Get a free hug from strangers on 14th Street (S/O to @Rawmultimedia for the inspiration for that one lol)
13. Get yourself a bouncy house and go crazy for like 12 hours straight.
14. Make up your own language and pretend its all you can speak for a day
15. And finally, create stupid lists like this one and share them with the world! :-)

Black is BEAUTIFUL! Now Let's See Some More of it!

This is an issue that is very much talked about amongst the black community; the lack of "black" faces in mainstream media. I'm just going to shed my feelings on the subject with this post:

Now, I read a lot of magazines and watch a lot of entertainment media and being a person who is interested in fashion and beauty, I like to see what these media outlets have to say on the subjects. But the problem is that there isn't much representation from the darker skinned population. It has always bothered me to some degree that in mainstream media, the only black females you see are lighter skinned or mixed raced like Beyonce and Halle Berry. Being a slightly darker skinned woman, its frustrating not to have that image to look to and aspire to.

I mean, there are a few places that try...like for example, right now on my bed is the July issue of People Style Watch magazine with Gabrielle Union on the cover. Seeing her, a fellow darker skinned and very beautiful woman, on the cover of a (dare I say) predominately Anglo based magazine makes me happy. But why can't we have MORE of that? Do we have to always go to the same few magazines that celebrate and showcase black faces? (i.e. Ebony, Essense...) I don't think we should have to. I think there should be a little representation of EVERYBODY in mainstream media. And don't even get me started on television! Thinking of all the television shows that I like (I won't name them right now....), there is very little diversity in the casts. I'm not racist and I don't watch television counting the black people but its just something I noticed and feel should be changed a bit.

Like I said, there really have been legitimate attempts and I'm not trying to harshly criticize any one institution or whatever. This is my feelings and my opinions that I felt should be shared. If you agree or disagree, let me know! Speak your mind in the comments below!

And as always, Thanks for Reading!

Psst! Hey Shawty! and all my other "Names"

One of the most annoying things for me and I'm sure any other beautiful woman (Oh, how conceited of me!) is cat calls or being picked up by strange men in the street. I don't know about other women but for me its always a guy that just seems like a real bum! The guys who think wife beaters and saggy jeans with their boxers showing are some kind of uniform; unkepmt guys with shaggy beady bead beards (think Pam from "Martin") and bad breath; males who are in men bodies but act like little boys...Yea, these are the kind of guys I always seem to get. And then they do the worst things to get your attention. They will call out for you from across the street. They will slow their beat up cars down and try to get you to hop in. And a lot of them just say really rude and objectifying things to you like "Damn, Baby! You look like a steak meal with a side of potatoes and corn on the cob!"

Some guys are really shameless, I swear! And what makes me mad is that some of us women accept craziness like that and these guys end up with girlfriends (or jumpoffs depending on the situation). Me personally, I have never and will never date a guy like that trying to "holla" at me on the street. But I have done some funny things to try to avoid them like giving a fake name, giving old numbers that have been disconnected, pretending to be hard of hearing, wearing fake engagement rings and wedding bands, and my favorite; pretending to be a lesbian!

Obviously there are better ways to try to pick up women; not every guy uses these bummy moves. There are the few guys out there that will just simply try to strike up a conversation or tell you that you look beautiful, which is a whole lot better than "Yo Shawty" or "Hey You in the *insert color here*!" I never knew I went by so many names!

If you agree or have a funny story about a guy (or girl) trying to pick you up, leave it in the comment section below and as always, Thanks for Reading!

P.S.: This post is not meant to be mean or hurt anyones feelings, just being funny! Don't worry if you're a girl that's fallen for the "Hey Shawty" technique, I'm sure you're not the only one ;-)

My Favorite Things: TV Edition

This is a list of 5 TV shows I'm currently obsessed with. To give a list of my favorite TV shows of all time would result in blogger crashing with all the content I would put in this post alone!

1. Single Ladies (VH1 Mon, 9PM ET/PT):

I'm so glad I started watching because I seriously LOVE IT! I admit that the acting at times can be a little flat and 2 Dimensional but I'm so distracted by the pretty clothes, fly shoes and GORGEOUS, I mean really sexy guys that I don't even care! The story line is good too: cheating, dating, getting dumped, therapy, stealing, lying, sex, scandal, fashion, glamour...I could go on and on.

2. Brothers & Sisters (Streaming Instantly on Netflix):

Ok, so I know that this show has been cancelled but I started watching it on Netflix and I'm really hooked. This show makes me really want to have a big family (I'm only child) with a whole bunch of brothers and sisters, nieces, nephews...*sigh* It's too late for the brothers and sisters now but perhaps in the future, I can have 5 children like Nora Walker in the show....NOT!!!!!! LOL

3. The Secret Life Of The American Teenager (ABC Family Mon 8PM ET/PT):

This is the only show (that I know of) about teenage pregnancy that DOESN'T glorify it and I'm so addicted to it. The show really lets teenagers get a glimpse of how difficult their lives get after getting pregnant but I personally watch for all the drama, not the lesson! I know a lot of people think its corny but I still think its a cute show. I'm so fixated on the story lines that I get emotionally attached! A couple of weeks ago, this one particularly sad episode had me crying for like 20 minutes straight! LOL

4. Keeping Up With The Kardashians (E! Sun. 10PM ET/PT):

I love the Kardashian sisters! The closeness and craziness is so fun to watch. This is another show that makes me wish I had siblings! LOL But the three girls kind of remind me of me and my two best friends especially since all three of us love and watch the show together all the time. And I LOVE the way they dress, they're always looking fly!

5. Teen Wolf (MTV Mon. 10PM ET/PT):

I was reluctant about this show because I thought it was gonna be twilight-ish and to be honest, I hate twilight. But this show proved to be pretty decent so far. It almost didn't make this list but the latest episode that came on Monday was really good and put this show on the map for me! Being a Buffy fan, I am critical of genres like this, because I think Buffy's creator Joss Whedon is king of Sci-Fi but Teen Wolf is pretty good!

That concludes my list. Is there any show you think I missed? Do you have a show on right now that I should check out? Let me know!

New Trend On The Rise: Crazed Obsessed Fans

I've been noticing a lot lately that people are going crazy. Ok so, I've kinda noticed this about people for all my life but specifically, I'm talking about all these crazy obsessed fans of big superstars like Justin Beiber, The Jonas Brothers, and Nicki Minaj. I call them teeny boppers (LOL) but they call themselves "Beliebers" or "Barbies and Kens". Even Adam Lambert's fans have named themselves "Glamberts".

I'm not trying to knock anybody for really admiring an artist or celebrity, that's not the problem. I kind of mentioned this before but I used to be a really big *NSYNC fan (and had an obsession for Lance Bass specificially) when I was in high school (and a little after, not gonna front!) so I know what that love and adoration is all about. But with the help of twitter, I think its getting a little out of hand. Justin Beiber fans were bashing poor Selena Gomez when news broke out that they were dating! Did each and every one of these crazy girls actually think he was going to end up dating them?

Then more recently, I noticed on Twitter how Chris Brown retweeted some of the negative tweets he received from the "haters" and his fans went ape sh*t on these people; calling them really hurtful and disgusting names, literally bombarding them with tweet after tweet to defend their precious Breezy! I mean, maybe it wasn't fair of them to tweet how they felt about Chris Brown directly to him but he is a public figure after all. Not everybody has to like him. And for every "hater" he probably has a dozen more fans, if not more.

Don't get me started on the way the Lil' Kim fans and Nicki Minaj fans go at each other!!

Bottom line is, I think its getting out of hand. Like I said, Twitter is feeding this unhealthy behavior because now fans can directly contact their favorite celebs and the haters as well. I call it unhealthy because some of these poor souls (not all though) live in these fantasy worlds and all they eat, sleep, breathe and do has to do with their star of choice. Its obsession and that is never good (Remember the movie with Beyonce?) Unfortunately, I just think it'll get worse and worse until...well I don't know but whatever it is, it'll be bad! LOL

Were you ever or are you now obsessed with a celebrity? Tell me about it!

5 Songs I Don't Want You To Know I Like, Shh!

Everybody who is a music lover like me, has a few songs that, when they listen to, they look around and make sure no ones around watching before blasting it in their headphones and when they're accused of liking the song or knowing too many words, they vehemently deny deny deny and blame it on their little sister/brother.

For me, here are those songs...well 5 of them!

1. She Ain't You- Chris Brown
So for most of you this is probably the hottest song out right now and you have no qualms about blasting it in your cars/mp3's but for me, a person who has openly declared from day one (long before the Rihanna thing...) that I DO NOT LIKE CHRIS BROWN, liking this song feels like a betrayal to some part of myself! Lol. I think its mostly because he sampled the song from two of my favorite songs from back in the day "Right Here" by SWV and "Human Nature" by Michael Jackson. Yea, that's gotta be it...

2. The Call (Remix)- Backstreet Boys feat. The Clipse
Brief history lesson on me, Tina Marie...I was a DIE HARD, CRAZY, OBSESSED Nsync fan. And like most of the die hard ridiculous boy band lovers, I hated the competition. But when I was all alone and with the lights down and the volume really low, I used to jam to this song (lemme stop lying, I still jam to it and I blast it!) But I justify it by explaining that I only like the REMIX and not the original corny version of the song! :-)

3. Cinderella - The Cheetah Girls
I can't even front, I love this song lol. I don't like to even admit that I watched the movie...more than once. Yes, I know that I'm entirely too old for Disney Movies made after 1999 but I watched it anyway and this was really the only song that stood out to me. Its pretty catchy and if you've never heard it, check it out!

4. Party in the USA - Miley Cyrus
Speaking of Disney...So you should already know where I'm going with this. No offense to Miley Cyrus but her songs are really corny and that Hannah Montana show? It's like painfully corny...so corny that it hurts me. But Party in the USA is my JAM! (I reluctantly admit this). For this song, its mostly the music that attracts me. That guitar riff is awesome and the song is super catchy. I could do without the screechy voice singing it but ehhh...Lol

5. Sometimes - Britney Spears
Another really corny song (are you noticing a trend yet? I like corny songs!) but it brings back so many memories! Yes I used to be a big Britney Spears fan and an even bigger NSYNC fan and well that's another story for another blog post. This is necessarily my absolute favorite from Britney but I love it none-the-less! (This is totally ruining the little street cred I do have!)

Ok That's all Folks! Hope you don't think too lowly of me after this. Like I said, I'm a music lover and that means even the embarassing songs like these Lol

I Support LOVE!

The news has been buzzing lately with talks that legalizing gay marriage just might be coming to the great state of New York and I couldn't be happier to hear this news!

I'm not gay myself but like the title of this posts says: I support love and I support gay marriage because denying someone the right to express their love in the way that they want to is just wrong. You can ask any of my close friends and family; I've always been very passionate about the rights of the LGBT community and whenever I hear about the mistreatment, prejudice, and injustice they face, I am so disgusted.

Why is it so wrong for LGBT to just be themselves? Are they hurting anybody? No! Everyone in this world should be able to love who they want to without fear if being outcast by others.

I'm not knocking anybody who doesn't believe in gay marriage. Whatever, that's your prerogative and I wouldn't tell anyone what to believe or how to feel. But as soon as you express that in a hateful way, that's when you need to be shut down! The bullying NEEDS TO STOP, the bashing NEEDS TO STOP, the slurs and hurtful words NEED TO STOP!!! Come on people, we're living in the new millenium for God's sake! And speaking of God, MY God wants us to love and respect everyone as we would want to be loved and respected because that's how much he loves us. I don't know what YOUR God tells you to do but eh...

Anyway, on a lighter and funnier note, I used to be sooo in love with Lance Bass from NSYNC. I mean I used to dream about marrying him and having some really pretty half black kids with blonde hair lol (this was of course before he came out as a gay man...well before-ish). When he came out I was so proud and happy for him and I knew that he was going to be a positive role model and influence the lives of so many. If I had to pick my favorite gay person he would be it lol.
Don't know why I told that story! I guess it's slightly related. It'll be more related if Lance gets married in NY!! (*Crossing my fingers*)

How do you feel about gay marriage coming to NY? Leave your comment below and Thanks for reading!

Jealousy: Lemme Break it Down for Ya!

Jealousy is way up there on the list of things that can ruin a relationship. Over the years, I've come to my own theories about what I think are the three types or levels of jealousy.
***Disclaimer: I am not a psychologist or relationship expert. I only have my opinions and whether you agree or not is up to you.

The first type of jealousy is the healthiest one. When you're in a loving relationship, there should be some degree of jealousy in which you're possessive (but not excessively) over your partner. I'm gonna use a hypothetical situation to explain my point better.

You and your boyfriend (or girlfriend) are sitting in a restaurant when the waitress (or waiter) stops by to take your order. The waitress is really good looking and you see your boyfriend and her exchanging (what you think are) inappropriate looks. He's checking her out and she's checking him out and you're watching the whole thing. Now a "healthy jealous" attitude would be to just put your arm around your man and flash the girl a fierce but friendly look that says "He's all mine, sorry!" And then move it along. That's a reasonable reaction to a situation where one might be jealous. It shows that you are confident that although your partner is noticing someone else and vice versa, there's no need to flip because YOU GOT THIS!!!

Take that same situation. You're sitting at the table, the waitress comes, blah blah. Now in the next level of jealousy, you would immediately get upset. All these negative thoughts would run through your head for a while and it'll just bring you down. This level of jealous stems from insecurity. But what makes this type of jealousy not as bad as the next one I'm gonna mention, is that you don't act on those thoughts…at least not in a crazy way. The most you would do with this type of jealousy is be in a bad mood and psych yourself out into being upset and passive aggressive while your partner is wondering what he/she did wrong. But the upside to this level of jealousy is that sometimes you can be secure enough to talk yourself out of this feeling. You can think of the fact that your boyfriend is there with YOU on that date and no one else. Yes, he might notice other women but he still choses to be with you.

Now for the final level of jealousy; the type that is fear inducing; the crazy jealousy. Same situation: You, your boyfriend, the waitress at the table, looks are exchanged, etc. The crazy jealous girlfriend would immediately go into bitch mode; flip out and accuse both the boyfriend and the waitress of messing around behind her back. She would fight the waitress and key up her boyfriend's car. This is the extreme level of jealousy. It comes from insecurity, irrationality, and bad relationships period. If you're a man or a woman and you feel the need to react to simple situations in a drastic way like this then perhaps you should check yourself out. I mean there are many factors that would cause a person to react that way. And sometimes it’s the other person in the relationship that can drive a person crazy like that… #ImJustSayin!

Hope you enjoyed this post! Feel free to give feedback, even if you disagree and Thanks for Reading!!!

My Current Obsession: Vh1's Single Ladies

I know I'm a little late but I just watched the first two episodes of Single Ladies on VH1 and I'm officially hooked. There's nothing like a show with lots of drama, hot clothes and hot men! And boy oh boy do I mean HOT MEN! The star on the men's side of the show is DB Woodside. Now I know Woodside from his short role on "Buffy" in season 7 but he has never looked sexier and finer than he does in this show! For those who aren't familiar with the show yet, he's a love interest of Lisa Raye's character, Keisha. (NEW CELEBRITY CRUSH ALERT!). This is definitely my show for the summer. I just hope it doesn't get cancelled; that tends to happen to all my favorite shows :-/

Have you guys watched the show? What do you think of it so far?

My Favorite Things: Makeup Edition

I'm about to get real girly on ya'll right now!

1. Eye Shadow Palettes

I love eyeshadow palettes period but my favorite one has to be the 88 Neutral Eyeshadow palette from Coastal Scents (or BH Cosmetics, they're pretty much the same thing.) When I put on make up in the mornings, I pick this up, pretty much every day. It never fails, the colors are pigmented and the price is cheap too! Between $20-$25 (Its cheaper at BH Cosmetics btw!)

2. Sugar Lip Polish from Fresh

This has saved my life! Ok, I tend to be a little exaggerated lol. But not only does this stuff work wonders for my always peely lips but it tastes good too! Not that you should eat it though but if it just happens to meet with your tongue, its not the worst thing in the world to be tasting. Price: $22.50 from Sephora

3. Translucent Touch-Up Powder (from Sephora)

My face, especially in the t-zone area gets so oily throughout the day all year around so when that happens, I take this jammy out with my trusty little Kabuki brush and get rid of all that unflattering shine. And contrary to popular belief, it doesn't make you look ashy if you're darker skinned like me. The one I use is from Sephora for 18 bucks but any translucent powder should do the trick but beware of the ones that actually make you ashy (like the N.Y.C. brand sold in drugstores...NEVER AGAIN)

4. Cargo Lipstick in "Eve Pinky"

This was a Christmas gift from my bestie and the boldest lipstick I own which is why I love it so. All my other lip colors are pretty neutral but this one pops. When I put it on, I definitely feel a bit "Nicki Minaj-ish" and then I break out in my own rendition of "Super Bass"...ok not really but yea the lipstick is cool. Now, I bought it from Sephora but I think the color has been discontinued....sorry! But here are some other selections at Cargo's website. And also a picture of me wearing the lipstick on my Tumblr!

5. Caramex

Ok so this one isn't as glamorous as the others but definitely necessary! Caramex is, in my opinion, better than Blistex and chapstick and just about any other lip balm out there! I think I like it so much but it leaves your lips tingling so you know for sure its working. I use it to prime my lips before lipstick application which is especially important for matte lipsticks. I have two in my purse and one spare one at home...yes that's how obsessed I am! Caramex is sold in drugstores in tubes, pots and as a twist up chapstick. There's also cherry flavor!

Thanks for reading! If there's any favorite products you like and think I should try, leave your suggestions in the comments below!

The L Word (And no I don't mean the TV show)

I was having a conversation with someone a couple weeks ago about Love. How do you know when you're in it?  And after you finally figure out that you're in love, how do you know when you're ready to settle down?  How do you know of your significant other is "the one"?

I think these are most baffling of questions in life. These questions are the reasons we as people go crazy in relationships!  The jealousy, cheating, lying, conniving, trickery, passive aggression...those things can all be attributed to the fact that we don't know where were going and who were going there with.  I think even the seemingly happiest couples are probably just as unsure as someone who's struggling to find love.

I guess the point of love and life is that you'll never know what you're destined for or who you're destined to be with. There are people who find the loves of their lives at the ends of their lives and people who don't believe in soul mates but instead believe in loving the one you're with. But in the end, I think we can all agree that despite the hardships, difficulties and searching, being in love or even thinking you're in love makes it all worth it and if you don't quite agree with that, maybe you haven't had that kind of love yet.

Been away for a while...This is why!

Apart of me feels badly that I haven't blogged on a while bit the other part of me that doesn't feel so bad is just excited about my new expansion pack for The Sims. I'm obessed! First of all, I've been a Sims fan since it came out when I was like, in middle school or something. This newest expansion pack, Generations is bringing even more real life elements into the game like never before. Teenagers can throw parties while their folks are away, there's prom and graduations. Last night, my Sim had a bachelor party! Kid sims can play pretend and have imaginary friends...ISN'T THIS ALL SO EXCITING!!!!

So, in a nut shell this is why I haven't been blogging so much. This past week I've spent the majority of my free time playing God on the computer. (No disrespect to the REAL God of course!)

My Favorite Things: Techy Edition

1. NOOK Color: This is seriously one of the best inventions ever! Ok maybe that's a little extreme but I love my NOOK. I had the original NOOK first but once the color one came out and I found out that I could read magazines AND books on it, I had to...I repeat HAD TO get it! And thanks to the convenience of the NOOK, I have read more books this year and last than I have in my entire life! LOL

2. iPhone 4: This is probably the only phone I will ever need for the rest of my life! With my iPhone in hand I am occupied all day! I had a Android powered phone before this one and I did like the customization and everything but I'm sorry to say that the iPhone is 10 times better (speaking from someone who used to prefer Android). That statement will probably make some people mad but Oh Well!

3. iPod Classic 80 GB: You wanna know how fly this iPod is??? THEY DON'T EVEN MAKE IT ANYMORE!!! Smh. I guess Apple couldn't handle its awesomeness so it discontinued it and replaced it with iPod classics that have entirely too much storage. But I've had mine for YEARS, my handy little iPod :0) But I'm so afraid of something happening to it. Its the perfect size storage wise, I don't wanna go up to a 160 GB. That's just ridiculous!

4. Nintendo Wii: So this is another thing of mine that serves many purposes. Although, I admit that lately I haven't been using it for its original intended purpose which is playing video games! LOL I've been really using mine a lot to watch Netflix on my TV. But when I have company over, the Wii is also great for group games :0)

5. Toshiba Mini NB205-N325PK: My Pink laptop is my favorite because its PINK! Well that and its really light and fits in nearly every purse I own. I admit that sometimes this computer gets on my nerves but I still don't know what I would do without it. I guess its like an annoying sibling in that way. Sometimes you wanna throw 'em out the window but at the end of the day, you guys love each other!

I Mean Really.....What IS Music?

The other day I read a quote from Moby who kinda took a dig at music by performers like Britney and Ke$ha, claiming that those types of songs shouldn't be considered music. This is his quote in full as taken from PerezHilton.com:

"It's fun, but I don't think of it as music. It's manufactured. I appreciate it as a pop culture phenomenon and some of the songs I like if I hear them in a shopping mall or something, but it doesn't function as music for me. Music is something that communicates emotion and integrity in a really interesting, direct way, and when I listen to the pop music you're describing, it's hyper-produced corporate product. That isn't really even a criticism, but I just think calling it music is a misnomer."

In a way, I kind of see his point. A lot of pop music is very manufactured and kind of artificial and superficial. But I don't think it's pointless or unnecessary. I think the purpose of that kind of music is not for the artist to express some kind of emotion but more to evoke emotions in the listeners.

However nicely put, I still think Moby's comment is still a little pretentious. Not everybody cares or wants to listen to the kind of music he feels has the most substance (which would no doubt be music like his own). Sometimes we (and yes I include myself) just wanna hear something catchy and fun and enjoy ourselves! Maybe Moby would have us listening to Mozart and Haydn all the time and studying the "interesting" way that the music "expresses emotion and integrity" but I think a lot if not most of us just wanna blast "Break the Ice" and "Tik Tok" on our iPods!

Not That I Care But...Who won American Idol???

The big news of the week is that some kid named Scotty McCreery won American Idol. Now let me first say that I don't watch American Idol...well I don't watch the live competition part but I do watch the auditions. I remember seeing Scotty's audition and thinking "There's no way this kid is gonna go through let alone win!" The deep voice might be cute in a boy band (LANCE BASS) but not as a solo artist. I never thought in a million years that it would happen but low and behold it did.

Now let me also say that I remember Lauren Alaina's audition as well and I pegged her right away to be the season's winner. I thought she was AWESOME, her voice was on point and she's a cute girl.

So I know I don't have much evidence since I didn't watch but what was it about Scotty that made him get more votes? Is it because he's a crooner? Is it because all of the lower half of this country voted for him while the other half (like me) didn't pay the show any mind? And most importantly, Would he even be on the show if Simon were still there? For that last question, I think NOT.

Bottom line: This is why I don't watch the show. From what I've seen I don't consider McCreery to be an "American Idol". Maybe a "Country Idol" but I don't think that his voice and his talent represents America. And how many times has America voted off a really talented singer coughcoughJENNIFERHUDSONcough and he/she turned out to be even more successful than the winner?

I don't understand the premise of the show! In my personal opinion, out of all the successful American Idol winners, I think Kelly Clarkson had the most appeal to a wider range of people, making her closer to an actual American Idol than any other winner. That's not to say that all the rest are bad but I'm just saying, let's evaluate the reason for this shows existence. They set out to look for someone with immense talent, versatility and likability. I mean am I wrong about that?

Maybe this Scotty kid will prove to be a true American Idol but sorry to say that I doubt it. But then again...I don't care anyway! :-)

Teenage Pregnancy is Cool! Thanks MTV!

The other day I was watching 16 and Pregnant with my bestie and we had a discussion about this fascination and glorification of teen pregnancy. Thanks to MTV, Bristol Palin and Jamie Lynn Spears and countless other factors, teenage pregnancy has kind of become acceptable and for some foolish teenagers, a cool thing.

For anyone that's watched the show, you know its not all fun and games. The producers make sure you see the teenage girls and boy struggling with their pregnancies, labor and bundles of joy. There's yelling, fighting, breaking up, and even some violence (as we've seen in recent weeks, outside of the show). MTV even puts up a disclaimer about how teenage pregnancy is 100% preventable. But the underlying thing; the thing about it that still makes it "cool" is the fact that its on television. It's on MTV! No matter what happens with these girls, they're still getting their time to shine, their names in magazines, they're faces in the news and their names out of the mouths of household names. And call me crazy but I think that the "fame" that comes after being on this show will be motivation enough for young impressionable girls to go out get pregnant in hopes that they'll become the next 16 and Pregnant star.

I get it though; its kind of a double edged sword. Awareness of teenage pregnancy should be raised to help prevent it but after that happens, I think its the media's responsibility to stop rewarding these girls with any further attention. These girls should NOT be on the cover of magazines and in entertainment news shows. End of story!

"Black Women Are UGLY?!?" You mus' be out cho' MIND!

I know I'm catching on to this kind of late but my friend just told me yesterday about something she heard on the radio. A couple of weeks ago "Psychology Today" posted an article about why black women are (wait for it....) LESS PHYSICALLY ATTRACTIVE than women of other races. And this is all based on some ASSHOLE psychologist, Dr. Satoshi Kanaza's "findings". He tries to justify this extremely racist claim by saying that its because black people have more testosterone than other races and that because of that, black women (but not black men) are objectively less attractive. So....we're unatrractive because we look like men? Gotcha. Please Mr. Kanaza do not come to NYC and if you are, best stay away from the Bronx, Brooklyn and Queens because there's a whole lot of us "ugly black women/men" that'll beat your ass. I'M JUST SAYING!

You can try to look for the article but Psychology Today has since taken it off its website but here's a few articles that talk about the RIDICULOUSITY!

Here's the Wikipedia page on Kanazawa. This isn't the only nonsense to come out of this man's mouth!

Gentlemen, its Ok when its in a three way!

Justin Timberlake is my favorite comedian on SNL! Huh? What do you mean he's not a regular on the cast? SMH he's been on there like a THOUSAND times!!! Don't you think its about time SNL made a commitment to Mr. Timberlake and stopped stringing him along??

Here's a clip of my favorite skit from SNL's season finale!

Who Run the World? Well apparently, Girls do!

Funny story: So last night, I turned on my tv to channel 7 looking for Desperate Housewives (which ended last week, no one gave me the memo!) but ended up catching the very beginning of Beyonce performing "Run The World" on the Billboard Awards which I had NO IDEA was on in the first place. (I don't keep up with awards shows anymore, not since high school.) So I ended up watching and I have to give B her props. The performance was SICK!!! I was so impressed! I couldn't even take my eyes off of it for one second.

I wasn't a big fan of the song itself when it came out but I do love the concept of enstilling this sense of empowerment in women/girls. I think that we could all use some more of that in this world, whether we are confident and cocky or struggling with self esteem. I admit that in my life I've struggled with self-esteem especially as a teenager. I think if Beyonce was singing this song back then, it might have helped even just a little bit.

Great job to B and other female artists (like my favorite, Christina Aguilera) who are always singing/speaking about the power of women!

"Love me or Leave me, Just take it or Leave it...."

Me, Fresh faced and Make-up free

Ladies this one is for you...
I am guilty of having this thought---> 'He (whomever he may be) cannot see me without my make-up on or my hair 'did'!" and I'm also guilty of saying this---> "No, you can't come over now, I need at least an hour to get ready" I think we've all had these thoughts when it comes to our romantic relationships. Today I kind of realized just how silly it all is. I know someone who emailed a person she's newly dating a picture of herself without makeup so that he could, quote, "know what he was getting himself into." But now she's worried because she hasn't heard back from him yet and she fears she may have scared him off.

Now here's my problem with that scenario; why does he need a preview? Why even give him a reason to reject you or walk away? Why put him through a "test"? It will happen eventually; that guy you're seeing now WILL eventually see you not looking your best. I say, just let fate take over and wait for the actual moment to happen before you force it. And besides, why do we women do these things when Men will fart, burp, spit in front of us, hang their guts freely over their bellies and scratch their crotches without batting an eye?

Just something to think about. Thanks for reading!

***Title consists of lyrics from "I Am" by Christina Aguilera: Bionic album

Maybe this is what they meant by "Rapture"...

...I mean this is what I thought would happen. :-)

What's a quarter-life-crisis anyway????

Maybe some people will stumble across my blog and wonder why I chose this title.  Others could really care less but I'm gonna explain anyway!
For anybody that's a John Mayer fan, you first heard this phrase in his song "Why Georgia" on his Room for Squares album and that is where I got it from.  Just so there's no copyright infringement or any mumbo jumbo like that. (Did I just say mumbo jumbo? My nerd is showing...)
For anyone that still doesn't quite get what it means; to pit it simply, it's basically a mid-life crisis but in half the time!

Pain = Beauty

Today I went to get my nails done with my two best friends and as you can see, they came out pretty nice.  Sounds like a good time right?  Well it would be if I didn't have to endure the pain that comes along with getting acrylic tips!  They file your nails raw, clip your skin, burn you with acrylic powder and then cut you with those electric nail files until you bleed and get burned some more by the nail polish seeping into your open wounds!!!
Now maybe this doesn't happen in upscale places on fifth avenue or in those nicer neighborhoods downtown but I can't afford those fancy places :-/ Lol I'm a full time student with a part time job!  So I guess I gotta deal with the pain if I want the beauty!

Lesson for the day, pain = beauty but I'm sure you already knew that :-)

I AM GADGET QUEEN HEAR ME ROAR!!!! RAWR :-)

So this is my first post on my bare, boring blog! Yay!!!! Let me start off by saying that I AM A GADGET QUEEN! Yesterday, I bought an iPhone (Yes I'm a sellout, I admit it) and I'm OBSESSED with it. Just another gadget to make me happy! :-) But just to further prove that I am a gadget queen: I created this blog on my iPhone, edited it and my profile on my NOOK Color and now I'm creating this post on my pink Toshiba 10" laptop! So now, I repeat with much conviction and gusto...I AM GADGET QUEEN HEAR ME ROAR!!!! RAWR!!!!
