Black is BEAUTIFUL! Now Let's See Some More of it!

This is an issue that is very much talked about amongst the black community; the lack of "black" faces in mainstream media. I'm just going to shed my feelings on the subject with this post:

Now, I read a lot of magazines and watch a lot of entertainment media and being a person who is interested in fashion and beauty, I like to see what these media outlets have to say on the subjects. But the problem is that there isn't much representation from the darker skinned population. It has always bothered me to some degree that in mainstream media, the only black females you see are lighter skinned or mixed raced like Beyonce and Halle Berry. Being a slightly darker skinned woman, its frustrating not to have that image to look to and aspire to.

I mean, there are a few places that try...like for example, right now on my bed is the July issue of People Style Watch magazine with Gabrielle Union on the cover. Seeing her, a fellow darker skinned and very beautiful woman, on the cover of a (dare I say) predominately Anglo based magazine makes me happy. But why can't we have MORE of that? Do we have to always go to the same few magazines that celebrate and showcase black faces? (i.e. Ebony, Essense...) I don't think we should have to. I think there should be a little representation of EVERYBODY in mainstream media. And don't even get me started on television! Thinking of all the television shows that I like (I won't name them right now....), there is very little diversity in the casts. I'm not racist and I don't watch television counting the black people but its just something I noticed and feel should be changed a bit.

Like I said, there really have been legitimate attempts and I'm not trying to harshly criticize any one institution or whatever. This is my feelings and my opinions that I felt should be shared. If you agree or disagree, let me know! Speak your mind in the comments below!

And as always, Thanks for Reading!

New Trend On The Rise: Crazed Obsessed Fans

I've been noticing a lot lately that people are going crazy. Ok so, I've kinda noticed this about people for all my life but specifically, I'm talking about all these crazy obsessed fans of big superstars like Justin Beiber, The Jonas Brothers, and Nicki Minaj. I call them teeny boppers (LOL) but they call themselves "Beliebers" or "Barbies and Kens". Even Adam Lambert's fans have named themselves "Glamberts".

I'm not trying to knock anybody for really admiring an artist or celebrity, that's not the problem. I kind of mentioned this before but I used to be a really big *NSYNC fan (and had an obsession for Lance Bass specificially) when I was in high school (and a little after, not gonna front!) so I know what that love and adoration is all about. But with the help of twitter, I think its getting a little out of hand. Justin Beiber fans were bashing poor Selena Gomez when news broke out that they were dating! Did each and every one of these crazy girls actually think he was going to end up dating them?

Then more recently, I noticed on Twitter how Chris Brown retweeted some of the negative tweets he received from the "haters" and his fans went ape sh*t on these people; calling them really hurtful and disgusting names, literally bombarding them with tweet after tweet to defend their precious Breezy! I mean, maybe it wasn't fair of them to tweet how they felt about Chris Brown directly to him but he is a public figure after all. Not everybody has to like him. And for every "hater" he probably has a dozen more fans, if not more.

Don't get me started on the way the Lil' Kim fans and Nicki Minaj fans go at each other!!

Bottom line is, I think its getting out of hand. Like I said, Twitter is feeding this unhealthy behavior because now fans can directly contact their favorite celebs and the haters as well. I call it unhealthy because some of these poor souls (not all though) live in these fantasy worlds and all they eat, sleep, breathe and do has to do with their star of choice. Its obsession and that is never good (Remember the movie with Beyonce?) Unfortunately, I just think it'll get worse and worse until...well I don't know but whatever it is, it'll be bad! LOL

Were you ever or are you now obsessed with a celebrity? Tell me about it!

"Black Women Are UGLY?!?" You mus' be out cho' MIND!

I know I'm catching on to this kind of late but my friend just told me yesterday about something she heard on the radio. A couple of weeks ago "Psychology Today" posted an article about why black women are (wait for it....) LESS PHYSICALLY ATTRACTIVE than women of other races. And this is all based on some ASSHOLE psychologist, Dr. Satoshi Kanaza's "findings". He tries to justify this extremely racist claim by saying that its because black people have more testosterone than other races and that because of that, black women (but not black men) are objectively less attractive. So....we're unatrractive because we look like men? Gotcha. Please Mr. Kanaza do not come to NYC and if you are, best stay away from the Bronx, Brooklyn and Queens because there's a whole lot of us "ugly black women/men" that'll beat your ass. I'M JUST SAYING!

You can try to look for the article but Psychology Today has since taken it off its website but here's a few articles that talk about the RIDICULOUSITY!
Salon.com
YourBlackWorld.com
Here's the Wikipedia page on Kanazawa. This isn't the only nonsense to come out of this man's mouth!
